Introducing Cosyfeet

We’ve recently got to know the team at Cosyfeet, whose range of footwear, socks, hosiery and foot comfort products help those with extra wide or swollen feet enjoy life more comfortably. They combine the latest trends with premium materials and expert shoemaking.

Thanks to innovations such as their ‘Hidden Depth’ design, their footwear fits swollen feet with ease but still looks stylish and streamlined. It’s also designed to minimise the risk of seams rubbing or causing discomfort, which is important if you have sensitive or vulnerable feet.

Some of their styles are more suitable for certain foot conditions than others. For example, some have a deep toe box so they’re good for problem toes. Others may be more suitable for bunions or have a removable footbed so you can insert your own orthotic.

Let’s take a closer look at the conditions they can cater for.

Products for Arthritis

Arthritis is a group of diseases affecting the joints, causing them to be stiff, inflamed and often painful. It is one of the greatest causes of disability in the UK, affecting approximately 1 in 20 under 40 year olds and 1 in 3 over 60 year olds. There are many kinds of arthritis; common types include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout.

Cosyfeet factor this condition into a number of their designs, with specifications such as:

  • Roomy shoes which are supportive. Their soft uppers reduce pressure, but still provide adequate support.
  • Firm heel backs and low heels ensure extra support for weakened joints.
  • Lace-ups are preferable, for the best support, but many people are affected with arthritis in their hands – so touch-fastening styles are easier to adjust.
  • Underfoot cushioning can help reduce pain underfoot and protect exposed swollen joints.

Products for Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. This is because your pancreas doesn’t produce any insulin, or not enough insulin, to help glucose enter your body’s cells.

This condition can affect the feet in many ways, including decreased circulation, diminished nerve sensitivity, and slow wound healing. To prevent complications, diabetic individuals should inspect their feet daily, wear proper footwear, maintain good hygiene, and manage their blood sugar levels effectively. Regular check-ups with a healthcare professional or podiatrist are essential for early detection and treatment of any foot issues.

Cosyfeet have worked closely with The Royal College of Podiatry to ensure that a number of their products are designed as diabetic-friendly:

  • Minimal seaming so there’s nothing to irritate sensitive feet.
  • Soft uppers and inners to prevent friction rubbing.
  • Antimicrobial and antibacterial linings made from sanitised materials (where possible) so feet can breathe and remain healthy.
  • Strap extensions are available for especially swollen feet.

Products for Hammer Toes

There are three joints to the lesser toes, in the case of a hammer toe the second joint of the toe is bent down (plantarflexed) while the end joint of the toe stays straight. This lends the toes to have two pressure points one on the bent up joint and one on the bent down. Depending on the positioning of the toe, this condition can lead to corns and calluses, which can be very painful and sore and take a long time to heal.

When choosing suitable footwear and foot care products, Cosyfeet advise the following:

  • Select footwear that has a deep and roomy toe area to prevent rubbing
  • A low heel to prevent the foot being forced forwards.
  • Using toe foam or silicone tubes can help to protect the exposed joints from excessive pressure.
  • A good foot care cream that can keep the skin soft and elastic.

Products for Oedema, Lymphoedema and Swollen Feet

Oedema is fluid retention, it commonly occurs around the feet and ankles and can be caused or related to several different medical conditions. The excess fluid in the tissues causes swelling, this is most commonly related to poor venous return or the lymphatic system. Swollen feet can be debilitating, and makes finding footwear to fit difficult. Cosyfeet’s specially-designed, extra wide footwear caters to swollen feet, with significantly more width, depth, and space than the standard wide-fitting shoes available from other retailers. All their shoes feature the same extra roomy width fitting (6E for women and 3H for men), ensuring there’s enough space for extra wide or swollen feet.

As one of the UK’s leading providers of extra roomy footwear, Cosyfeet recommend:

  • Wear well-fitting, low heeled, comfortable footwear that isn’t tight or restrictive.
  • Adjustable fastenings can be beneficial if your swelling changes throughout the day.
  • Use shock-absorbing insoles for additional support.
  • Raise feet (on a stool) to help reduce swelling.
