Pre-Book Your Merlin Ride Access Pass for Alton Towers

Merlin offer a Ride Access Pass to guests who may find it difficult or cannot stand for long periods of time either due to a physical disability or a learning/emotional impairment. You must pre book to use the Ride Access Pass system before every visit and at least 7 days before your visit to Alton Towers. We recommend booking as far in advance as possible to save from disappointment.

Ride Access is booked online and in order to be eligible you will require either an Access Card or a FREE Merlin Digital Access Pass (DAP) that ONLY works with Merlin Entertainment Parks.

Step 1: Sign up and purchase an Access Card - Purpl members can get 10% off with our Access Card discount (£15 for three years) or apply for the Free Merlin Digital Access Pass

Step 2: Once your application is approved, you will be sent an Access Card, you will then need to link this to a Merlin Ride Access Pass.

Step 3: Once you have linked your Access Card, you will receive a digital version of your Ride Access Pass which you can use to collect your Ride Access Pass card. Upon your first visit to Thorpe Park, you can collect your physical Ride Access Pass ID, this is valid for 3 years.

Step 4: Pre-book your visit. You will need to pre-book your Ride Access Pass online before your visit.

Please note that the Merlin Ride Access Pass pre-book does not include admission into the attraction. You will still need to book your day tickets or Merlin Annual Pass pre-book to show at entry.

Ride Accessibility for Disabled People and Sensory Information

Our rides and attractions have a variety of restrictions which are put in place to ensure our guest’s safety. Each ride has their own set of restrictions which must be adhered to at all times, some of which are due to ride restraints, forces or sometimes due to additional requirements if the ride has stopped and guests are required to exit before reaching the station.

The sensory map has been created to share with our Phalanx operatives the sensory effects and theming you may experience within the Forbidden Valley area. Please note in addition to this information, there may be roaming actors within the area.

For all ride specific information on theming and effects, please refer to the sensory signage that is located at the Ride Access Pass entrance of each ride.

There is Sensory Space located within CBeebies Land, is a calm space for guests with additional sensory needs. Please only use this facility if you are a guest who has additional sensory needs and requires the use of a sensory space.

Essential Companion (Carer) Tickets for Alton Towers

Guests who have the following documentation are entitled to one free essential companion ticket. However, the guest with the disability and any further members of their party will pay full price.

  1. Entitlement to Disability Living Allowance for children under 16 or DLA/Personal Independent Payments (PIP) for those aged 16-64, either in the form of a letter stating that the benefit has been awarded, or the actual Allowance book.
  2. Attendance Allowance or Carer's Allowance letter of award.
  3. Incapacity Benefit books, or a letter notifying the recipient that the benefit has been awarded.
  4. Incapacity Benefit, Employment Support Allowance (ESA). Disability Student's Allowance (DSA) or DID card (UK Disabled ID Card)
  5. A valid Blue Badge.
  6. In the case of visual impairment, a registration card known as the BD8 or a Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI).
  7. Credibility’s Access Card with the carer/companion symbol.
