We are happy to be partnering with The Disability Union and providing help for disabled people, we understand the importance of empowering disabled people and disability rights advocacy. Purpl and The Disability Union believe in the power of community and collaboration to drive meaningful change for disabled individuals and for us to achieve disability equality for all.

The Disability Union is an organisation founded by George Baker, who was born with muscular dystrophy. George’s journey is one of resilience and determination. Living every day in a wheelchair, he faced the challenges of disability head-on and refused to let it define his potential. George envisioned a better world for disabled individuals – one where they are treated with dignity, supported in their needs, and empowered to live fulfilling lives. This vision led to the founding of The Disability Union.

From its inception, The Disability Union has grown into a dynamic and award-winning organisation, thanks to the dedication of a diverse team of disabled individuals and carers. Each team member brings unique insights and experiences, fueling the Union’s mission to advocate for the rights and needs of disabled people and their families.

At The Disability Union, advocacy is at the heart of everything we do. Our passionate team works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of disabled individuals are heard in policy discussions and community initiatives. We engage in campaigns and political work aimed at influencing legislation and promoting systemic change that benefits the disabled community. We believe that meaningful change happens not only through grassroots efforts but also by holding decision-makers accountable.

In addition to our advocacy and political work, The Disability Union is committed to providing educational resources that empower disabled individuals and their carers. We offer workshops, informational sessions, and materials that cover a range of topics, from navigating the healthcare system to understanding rights and benefits. By equipping our community with knowledge, we enable them to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions.

The Disability Union Skills Academy provides accessible skills training for disabled people through a range of over 700 courses, every course is accessible and recognised by the CPD accreditation body. With courses ranging from Beauty therapy to Retail Banking and also employability skills and IT skills.

We also recognise the importance of fostering a sense of community among disabled individuals and their families. We organise events like “Sensory Superstars,” which provide engaging and inclusive experiences for families with disabled children. These events are designed to create safe spaces where families can connect, share their experiences, and enjoy activities tailored to their unique needs.

The Disability Union is on a mission to partner and collaborate with like-minded organisations and individuals to ensure that disabled people have access to the resources they need to live their lives to the fullest. By joining forces with Purpl and other supportive entities, we aim to amplify our impact and create a network of support that benefits disabled individuals across the community.

Together, through advocacy, education, community engagement, and collaboration, we are building a brighter future for disabled individuals—one where they can live independently, pursue their dreams, and enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else. Join us in our mission to create a more inclusive and supportive world for disabled people. Together, we can make a difference.
