When Georgina created Purpl – the UK’s first disabled discount website to help the disabled community, she had been living with multiple sclerosis since 2003 and experienced first-hand how expensive it is when you live with a disability, recognising a gap in the market, she launched Purpl in July 2024.

Purpl is more than just discounts, it has a social cause at its heart. Purpl brings the disabled community together, provides relevant disability focused content and has a focus on giving back to disabled charities. The long term plan is to launch the Purpl Foundation that will enable Purpl to offer grants to disabled individuals who need extra financial support to pay for equipment or services that will make a difference to their day to day life.

Our First Charity Partnership

“I’m delighted to announce that our first charity partnership is with Spinal Injuries Association. Supporting the disabled community beyond discounts is a core value of Purpl, and this partnership is a meaningful way for us to give back. From November 2024 to March 2025, we will donate 20% of funds raised through our promotional brand activity to Spinal Injuries Association.” Georgina, Founder & CEO of Purpl

Spinal Injuries Association said: “We are thrilled to be working with Purpl to support the disabled community. This collaboration marks an important step towards easing the financial challenges of living with a disability, while supporting our members to lead more fulfilling lives.”

Here at Spinal Injuries association (SIA) our aim is to reach everyone with a spinal cord injury, to tackle whatever barriers they face, and to connect them to all the help and support they need to flourish in their lives, in the way they want and choose. We won’t stop until we live in a world where every person with a spinal cord injury gets the chance to lead a fulfilled life.

Every two hours, a person’s life is changed when they sustain a spinal cord injury (SCI). Their world – and that of their family – is turned upside down. Spinal cord injury can be caused by accidents, illnesses and health conditions.

Our NHS helps put newly injured people on the road to rebuilding their lives; we guide them throughout the rest of the journey.

Our holistic approach to supporting people who are spinal cord injured, and their loved ones means we provide the time, expertise and connections essential to making pathways towards a fulfilled life.

We have achieved so much in the last 50 years but here are just a few things we achieved in 2023/24.

We provided 1,420 support sessions to meet the practical and emotional needs of people with spinal cord injury.

Our clinical specialist and support network teams provided training to nearly 1,500 healthcare professionals and partners.

We ran 140 group sessions, giving people with SCI and their families a chance to come together and share experiences and advice.

In 2023 SIA began a new 7-year strategy, with ambitious goals of a health and care system that works for people with spinal cord injuries; double the number of members accessing all the support and advocacy they need, and a UK government and public championing the cause of people with spinal cord injuries people and their families.

Achieving these goals would mean less people with spinal cord injuries experience severe mental health issues, people do not feel disabled by the society they live in, and that people are not living in fear of going to hospital because of the lack of knowledge around their condition.
