Today we are celebrating Human Beauty, one of our partners and a disabled led business that is changing the face of beauty in the UK.
In the vibrant landscape of the UK’s beauty industry, Human Beauty stands out as a beacon of inclusivity and accessibility. Founded by Millie Flemington-Clare, a visionary entrepreneur, the brand is reshaping beauty standards to ensure everyone feels represented and empowered. This is why we partnered with them to deliver some amazing discounts, Purpl members can enjoy an incredible 30% off in our Human Beauty Disabled Discounts.
Millie’s Journey: From Personal Challenges to Industry Pioneer
Born with Cystinosis, a rare metabolic condition affecting approximately 3,000 individuals worldwide, Millie faced numerous health challenges from an early age. This condition, which leads to the accumulation of cystine crystals in cells, primarily impacts the eyes and kidneys, necessitating regular medication and medical interventions.
Despite these hurdles, Millie’s passion for makeup became a therapeutic outlet and a means of self-expression during her most trying times. Recognising the lack of representation and accessible products in the beauty industry, she was inspired to create Human Beauty, a brand that embodies her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
Human Beauty: Redefining Inclusivity in Makeup
Launched with the mission to make beauty accessible to all, Human Beauty is more than just a cosmetics brand; it’s a movement challenging traditional beauty norms. The brand is renowned for its innovative products designed with accessibility at the forefront. For instance, the Liquid Confidence Mascara features an omnidirectional wand, catering to individuals with diverse mobility needs, while the Makeup Therapy Palette includes a QR code on the back to get visual and audio descriptions of each shade, ensuring inclusivity for visually impaired users.

The Human Beauty Mission
Human Beauty believe every human is beautiful – and that we all have the right to see ourselves represented in the beauty world. But we also have the right to use accessible products that were created with different needs in mind. They say:
As a disabled-owned business, Human Beauty will never pretend to be inclusive while ignoring key issues that put beauty out of reach. Our innovative products are tested by a diverse panel of people, including those with a range of disabilities, to make sure they actually work. We look at both the content of our products and their packaging to make sure they’re high quality and easy to use.
Human Beauty on Dragon’s Den
If you tune in to BBC’s Dragon’s Den on Thursday 27th February, you will get the chance to see Millie in action in front of the Dragons! She says:
When I first started Human Beauty in 2020, I was just a girl with a dream of making beauty accessible and inclusive for everyone. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to say I’m making this dream a reality. I’m so excited (and grateful) to have the opportunity to share our mission and work with the nation, proving the power and impact of accessible beauty!
Millie is hosting an online viewing party and live chat on Human Beauty social media on Thursday, so if you’d like to watch along with her, then head to the Human Beauty facebook page here!
