Purpl is thrilled to announce that our founder, Georgina Colman, is a finalist in the Leader category at the upcoming Disability Smart Awards. This award recognises inspirational leaders who are driving the disability inclusion agenda to bring about positive change and break down the barriers experienced by disabled people. The recognition of Georgina in this category highlights her commitment and passion for Purpl, the UK’s First Disabled Discount site.
It is an honour for Georgina and for Purpl, we are a small start-up business run by a tiny, but passionate team, and we are so happy that Georgina’s work is being celebrated, she leads by example and uses her position to create a better environment for disabled people nationally.
She began Purp because she is a real change-maker and has truly driven disability inclusion to make positive changes that break down barriers experienced by disabled people in the UK.

About the Awards
Business Disability Forum’s annual Disability Smart Awards showcase and celebrate the work of organisations that are improving the life experiences of disabled employees and consumers, by removing barriers to inclusion.
Hosted by Business Disability Forum, the Disability Smart Awards recognise individuals, teams and businesses who have improved the experiences of disabled people in the workplace or as consumers.
We are so incredibly proud to be shortlisted for this award, alongside two other wonderful leaders and change-makers in the disability community. The award reflects our dedication to positive change and making a difference to the lives of all disabled people in the UK through offsetting the financial impact of life with a disability.
I want to offer a huge congratulations to all the Disability Smart Awards 2025 finalists. Judging the awards gets tougher each year and only entries which have been developed by or with disabled people, are innovative and can demonstrate true impact reach the finalist stage. We look forward to sharing stories about our finalists as we continue to encourage all businesses to do better on disability inclusion.

About Purpl
At Purpl, we work on the ethos of community. We have created a safe space for disabled people to come together, a library of guides and information about benefits, grants and other ways to improve your life as a disabled person and connections with hundreds of brands, not only to get brilliant discounts on the products that we use every day, but also to teach brands how they can be more inclusive and better allies to the disabled community.
We work hard to make Purpl an accessible space, using the technology of Recite for screen-reading capabilities and accessibility, and aiming to always use the most accessible formats available.
Our customer service is about connecting with individual people and helping them to solve problems, we know how unique every disabled person is and so we do not assume, we ask questions, we offer support and we help people to have the easiest journey as a Purpl member.
We have recently launched with Morrisons, offering the disabled community 10% off their grocery shopping and we know this has made a huge impact to our members, with some saving £50 a month with this brand alone! This partnership would not have been possible without the hard work and passion of Georgina.
Her nomination for the Disability Smart Award is not just a reflection of Georgina’s achievements, but also of the team who work hard and are passionate disability advocates, disabled people themselves and allies of the disabled community. This award motivates us all to continue working to ensure we are constantly improving and offering our customers the best possible discounts, guides, support and information.
What Next?
Though being a finalist for this award is a significant milestone, we know it is just the first of many steps toward a future where Purpl can support every disabled person in the UK to save money!
We are committed to making positive change for the disability community and growing ever bigger. As we grow, we will be able to give even more money and support to disability charities in the UK and the long term aim is to have a Purpl Foundation that will give grants to individuals and groups in real need.
Winners of the Disability Smart Awards 2025 will be announced at an awards ceremony sponsored by Freshfields in London and online on 29 April 2025. Go to Business Disability Forum’s Disability Smart Awards page to find out more about all the 2025 finalists and read about past winners.
Thank you to the Disability Smart Awards judges, and to you, our wonderful members for your support, trust, feedback and encouragement.
