Eight years ago, my life changed in unimaginable ways when my daughter, Aara, was born. Aara was diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome—a rare genetic condition—and her presence has deeply reshaped my heart, my family, and my life’s purpose. Living with a child with special needs has been a journey of patience, empathy, and resilience. It’s taught us to celebrate victories that others might overlook and to find extraordinary beauty in moments that may seem ordinary. Our family has become a tight-knit team, advocating not just for Aara but for all individuals with special needs in our community.

When we first received Aara’s diagnosis, I was devastated. I feared for her future and worried about our family’s capacity to support her unique needs. But as I navigated the path from fear to acceptance, I had a profound realization: Aara’s differences are integral to who she is, wanting Aara to be different was essentially wishing away the very essence of who she is. Embracing her neurodiversity and needs became a source of strength, not only for our family but also for a broader mission—to foster understanding and inclusivity for all neurodiverse individuals.

Through our everyday challenges, Differently Perfect was born—a brand that celebrates the beauty of neurodiversity and challenges societal misconceptions. One painful experience at the park, where Aara’s stimming attracted stares and whispers, was a turning point for us, it made us feel isolated.
